Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the Balearic Islands off the east coast of Spain, and is famous for its scenic beaches and excellent weather. It is the largest city on the island of Mallorca, and over half of the island's inhabitants live in Palma. Palma also has the largest and most important port on the island. Students at a Spanish school in Palma de Mallorca will be in a popular vacation spot that attracts about 10 million visitors to the island every year. Although the beaches are a popular destination, students interested in studying Spanish courses in Palma de Mallorca shouldn't be mistaken into believing that beaches are all this great city and island have to offer. The northwest coast of Mallorca is covered by the majestic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, and is a region filled with olive groves, pine forests, quaint villages, and a breathtaking rugged coastline. The city of Palma also has centuries of history, with periods of Roman rule, Byzantine rule, and Muslim rule as well-- although there are no longer and visible remains of Roman rule, the two latter mentioned rulers have drastically different but equally beautiful art and architecture displayed throughout the city.
