The small town of Camerino is located in the Marches region in the province of Macerata, Italy. It is home to the University of Camerino which was founded in the Middle Ages. Students enrolled in Italian school in Camerino will learn that there is much to do and see in this town. Be sure to visit the botanical gardens on the ground of the University. Students who are in town during the month of May will have the opportunity to participate in the Corsa Alla Spada, a celebration of the town’s heritage that includes a footrace. There are also museums in Camerino devoted to art and archeology, offering great exhibits for visitors to enjoy. The castle is another popular destination with the opportunity for visitors to get an amazing panoramic view of the area. Students taking Italian courses in Camerino should also be sure to visit nearby Sibillini National Park. There visitors can enjoy a number of walking and mountain biking trails. The Frasassi Caves are another popular destination in the area. Guided tours are available including one cavern large enough to hold the entire Milan Cathedral. Visitors to the area can expect to experience fairly mild weather in the springtime. Wild flowers are in abundance during this time. Summers are generally hot, with July and August being the hottest months each year. Winters can bring snow to the area, bringing the opportunity for winter sports including skiing in the nearby mountains. Be sure to sample the local cuisine during your stay, including vincisgrassi, a lasagna that is sometimes made with up to 15 layers of pasta.
