"A great way to gain confidence and learn the basics in Spanish."

Lowenna Elizabeth Arnold, student from UK

Both me and Paul had a fantastic experience at La Montaña Spanish School. The classes perfectly suited our level of Spanish, it was a class of only 3 of us which meant we got a lot out of it with max participation. The teachers we had were all so friendly, and knowledgable how to help us learn most effectively with a lot of engagement and fun activities. The location was perfect, right in town and we were given plenty of information via WhatsApp before and during our week. There were meet-ups organised out of teaching hours that were a great way to continue socialising and speaking Spanish with others.
The only thing was the miscommunication around the unplanned bank holiday of the elections which meant we were unsure we would receive compensation or the hours missing for that week. We ended up with half the hours we had missed. Overall a great week that was very useful!

"Great - improved my Spanish a lot in a short time!"

Alexandra Phillips, student from UK

There were not any other students at my level that week, so I received 2 hours of private teaching per day instead of 4 hours in a group class but for the same price. This was great and helped me to improve my Spanish a lot in a short time.

Veronica was a great teacher - clear but concise in explanations and pushing you to achieve as much as you can. She is always happy to explain things and encourages any questions you may have.

Our home stay was very close to the school with an amazing host. She was so friendly, a great cook and great for practicing Spanish with in the afternoons and evening.

We only managed to take part in one activity but Eugenia was very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area.

Only negative was that we wanted to extend our home stay, but the cost was very high so we didn’t. The price of the home stay is quite expensive, compared to the cost of what the families actually receive. This put us off staying with a local family, even though we wanted to as most of the cost goes towards the school. Otherwise, overall, a great experience.

"A fantastic teacher, highly effective, and a great experience!"

Shachaf Sim, student from Israel

The class was located in the center, so it was really convenient in terms of getting to the place and back. My teacher was "Vicky", a lovely young lady, full of energy, super nice and kind, and a very talented teacher. She used body language as she was speaking Spanish, so we could understand what she's saying despite we had no background in Spanish. The people in my class were nice and friendly, and so were the staff of the school. I would 100% recommend for anyone considering taking Spanish classes in Bariloche, as I had a great and a highly effective experience there.

"A good experience, despite Covid"

Oliver St Quintin, student from Canada

The experience was really in two parts: the school and the homestay.
The school experience unfortunately was heavily impacted by Covid, something of course beyond the control of the school.

Most of the time, I was the only student in the class and as such, the format was two hours of private tuition per day rather than four hours in a group setting - more concentrated attention, but less time. Classes also went on-line for a week owing to one teacher and the father of my host family testing positive.

Class excursions were also greatly curtailed, although there were some. Again understandable and not the fault of the school, but it meant the experience wasn't what I had hoped for.

The home stay experience was wonderful. Sharing a bathroom took me back to my childhood days, but wasn't a problem. The family could not have been nicer and more helpful. Mariela had worked in the tourism industry for twenty years and had also hosted many students before, ranging in age from 15 to 75 - so could not have been better. The house was close to the city centre and so walking was no problem - although good exercise, being uphill.

A family-stay will give students a positive experience while practicing what they have learnt in class and the unique opportunity to know more about local culture, traditions, philosophy, etc. Student perspective will not be simply as a tourist, they will get to know local culture from inside, as a member of a family.
Our families are selected considering many different aspects: family routines need to be flexible enough to make the students' stay as happy as possible. Houses need to be clean, safe and have enough space for their guests to feel comfortable. Host families are advised to encourage students to speak Spanish as much as possible during their stay, and -of course- never speak any other language but Spanish, unless it is absolutely necessary Our host families have received our students for more than 20 years, so they are very experienced and know how to manage different situations.
Most members of these families are professionals, scientists or teachers.
Family stays include breakfast and dinner. They can use the fridge to keep their own snacks.
Laundry is paying-out-of-pocket, at laundry service, 100 meters from school. The cost is around $5us.
