At Good Hope Studies our priority is to provide lessons of a high standard and our aim is for our clients to leave Cape Town feeling more confident communicating in English. To support these lessons, we provide accommodation and a social programme, and many of our clients use these services to practice their English.

Most of our teachers are permanently employed and have CELTA or DELTA teaching qualifications from Cambridge ESOL. The majority of our teachers have many years of experience teaching a range of nationalities and levels and they know how to make learning not only fun, but also highly effective.

Besides the usual learning facilities, you will also find an interior that creates a pleasant atmosphere in which to study. In addition to fully equipped classrooms, the school building offers a break room where students enjoy free coffee and tea, free Internet access for e-mailing and Wifi. Our school offers a beautiful garden, where classes regularly take place, as well as a swimming pool.

We provide on-site accommodation where you can study and live on the same property. Alternatively you can choose other residences nearby or you can stay with a host family (GHS Homestay) close to school.

South African host-families are well known for their friendliness and hospitality. Your “host-family” could be a single woman, an older couple or a young couple with children. Either way, staying with a family will give you a unique insight into the South African lifestyle.

In Newlands, Good Hope Studies is the only major English Language school. We therefore have a large number of high quality families available. In the city centre, the number of good quality families is limited. Late bookings might therefore result in longer travel times.

You may book a single or double room and your family will supply you with breakfast and dinner. Travel distance to the school is very short, with only a few families living as far as 45 minutes from the school. In the southern suburbs, all host-families stay in private houses with gardens.

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

Your letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.

All placement tests are done inhouse to ensure the best possible accuracy of placing the student in the correct level. Therefore, the student will do the placement test on arrival at the school on the first day.
